1984 Red 2019, La Senda
This 100% Mencia red (a descendant of the Trousseau) comes from clay-limestone soils rich in quartz, iron, and slate, at an altitude of about 650 meters in southern El Bierzo. The vines are seventy to ninety years old. The grapes macerate for three to four days in old oak barrels, and the wines are aged for seven months in French oak barrels and foudres. No sulfites are added, no filtration. Dark garnet color, warm slate nose with fruity accents—the marriage of cherry and stone—a full and juicy palate: a bright wine, perfectly faithful to its terroir. Decanting is recommended.
Natural wine with no added sulfites.
