Syrah Jamais Malade Red 2021,
That's what they often say about natural wines: the next day, never sick, no hat... Which doesn't prevent you from drinking in moderation, even if it's a magnificent gurgling like this one. The nose is floral, the palate is fresh and light, with a hint of spice on the finish. Jamais Malade is made from Syrah grapes grown on a plot of loess and granite, facing northeast, with hand-harvested grapes. Maceration is semi-carbonic, in wooden and stainless steel vats. Pressing takes place before the end of fermentation, after which the wine is aged in stainless steel vats. Bottling takes place in June.

La Ferme de l’Arbre is a small four and a half hectare wine estate located on the right bank of the Rhône, on the Ardèche side, in Tournon-sur-Rhône (near Tain-l’Hermitage). Run for twenty-five years by Christian Lericq and Colette Barrier, it has had its current name since 2021, the year it was expanded. It is mainly located on granite soils with a loess plot. Entirely devoted to natural wine, obtained through organic and biodynamic farming, it currently produces Syrah red wines under the Saint-Joseph and Vin de France appellations. The estate also has a small apiary and produces honey. The vines are tended with herbal teas and nettle manure, and the soil is nourished with compost and manure. The wines are harvested entirely by hand, vatted in whole bunches. Vinification takes place at room temperature and the wines are neither filtered nor fined. The wines are authentic Syrahs from the Rhône Valley, simple and delicious, joyful, convivial and fruity.
The plots are mainly located in the commune of Tournon-sur-Rhône; only one is in the commune of Sècheras. They are located on hillsides and entirely made up of small terraces and low walls on a mainly granite soil. Only one plot is loess. When, in 2021, part of their plot lost the Saint-Joseph protected designation of origin, the winemakers saw this as an opportunity to create different vintages under the Vin de France appellation and thus expand the range. Syrah is the main grape variety.
Entirely organic and biodynamic, the soils are worked with a winch, a pickaxe, and a rototiller. The very steep configuration of the vineyards in this part of the Côtes du Rhône requires the use of a winch. The vines are fed with compost and manure, and protected by spraying herbal teas and nettle manure, depending on the climate, in addition to a treatment with natural sulfur and minimal amounts of copper. The grapes are harvested by hand and vatted in whole bunches.
Maceration and fermentation are carried out at room temperature with as little intervention as possible, without any artifice: neither filtration nor fining. Bottling takes place before the following harvest. In 2023, Colette and Christian plan to work with "Ma bouteille s'appelle revient," a local bottle-washing company, and hope that their 2022 bottles will be labeled "washable bottles." The idea is to drop them off at collection points throughout France to be washed and reused. This measure uses 33% less water than recycling.
For the moment, only red Syrah wines are offered, under the Saint-Joseph and Vin de France appellations. These are joyful, fruity wines with well-balanced tannins. True Syrahs from the Côtes-du-Rhône, simple, delicious, true wines for friends.
