The Revival of a Beaujolais Heritage

Halfway between Lyon and Mâcon, nestled in the hillsides of northern Beaujolais, Domaine Nestor Bélicard embodies the subtle union between ancestral tradition and a contemporary vision of wine. Heir to family know-how dating back to the end of the 17th century, Nestor Bélicard, a passionate new winemaker, decided in 2017 to return to his childhood lands in Lancié to take over the family vineyard. At 54, after thirty years spent in major cities, he made a radical shift: reconnecting with the techniques of yesteryear, restoring meaning to viticulture, and fully committing to organic farming and natural winemaking.

This return to his roots is not a simple tribute. It is a life project, an agricultural manifesto. In 2018, the estate began its conversion to organic farming: zero synthetic pesticides, mechanical weeding, plant-based treatments, traditional goblet pruning, and exclusively hand-harvested grapes. The winemaking process follows the same approach: natural, without exogenous yeasts or chemical additives, with minimal or no use of sulfites, and fermentation in century-old wooden vats.

A confidential terroir in the heart of Beaujolais

The estate currently covers only 5.5 hectares, a deliberately limited area that allows for rigorous plot monitoring. Located within a 1 km radius of Lancié, the vines flourish in prestigious appellation terroirs: Fleurie, Morgon, and Beaujolais-Villages. These iconic Beaujolais vintages are interpreted here with finesse and authenticity, thanks to the Gamay grape variety, vinified with the utmost respect for its natural expression.

At the heart of the estate lies an emblematic site: La Poype du Châtelard, a thousand-year-old castle mound overlooking the vineyards and the village, offering a panoramic view of the entire region. This historic monument, a vestige of an ancient era, symbolizes the estate's roots in its history and its land.

Natural, certified organic, and appellation wines

The uniqueness of Domaine Nestor Bélicard lies in the rare alliance between natural wines, organic certification, and appellations. Here, the wine is lively, structured, fruity, and balanced—never deviant, always sincere. Like the 2018 vintage, praised by the Hachette Wine Guide for its roundness, black cherry aromas, and total absence of added sulfites, each cuvée expresses the vitality of Gamay, the strength of the terroir, and the soul of the winemaker.

A human-sized estate, deeply rooted in the past but looking to the future, Domaine Nestor Bélicard is a committed player in the Beaujolais revival, combining respect for nature, a commitment to quality, and the transmission of a precious heritage.
