A grocery store that also offers a wide selection of over 350 natural wine references... or a wine merchant with an exceptionally well-stocked choice of local products! We chose to be both, and the common thread between the two professions: a demanding quality charter, both in terms of taste and respect for the environment and nature. We would be delighted to introduce you to the treasures of passionate winemakers and committed producers. Find us on the most beautiful square in Lyon's 2nd arrondissement, Place Bellecour!
Martin is the manager of YARD Lyon Bellecour. His passion is natural wines above all else: that's why he offers so many of them in his vaulted cellar. Each bottle in the cellar is the result of the hard work of passionate independent winemakers, who work in the vineyard to best preserve the terroirs they represent, the living organisms, and the lands that make up their environment. Labelled or not, the small selected estates all apply organic or biodynamic viticulture, with mainly hand-picked harvests, with the utmost respect for the vine. In the cellar, the approach continues: fermentation of the wines with indigenous yeasts (naturally present on the skin of the grapes) and vinification without using additives or oenological techniques that could alter the grape and the wine, notably with no added sulfites (except in rare exceptions, in tiny doses, always less than 30 mg/L). A lively selection, unique in Lyon, made in partnership with the natural wine dealers Culinaries, who guarantee compliance with all these criteria. Of course, Martin then puts the vintages through the sieve of his palate: if the wines must be well produced, they must also be good!
As a wine merchant, we must offer you diverse and varied vintages, see for yourself!
It is certainly possible to taste a tour of France's vineyards through our natural wine cellar: from local regions like Beaujolais or the Rhône Valley to major emblematic appellations such as Burgundy, the South-West, Alsace, the Jura, or the entire Loire Valley. Fancy something from elsewhere while staying in Lyon? We also have the right gems, from Europe and all over the world: from Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria, the United States... You are spoilt for choice!
In terms of taste, the aim is to satisfy all palates: from lovers of highly tannic red wines to light, easy-drinking ones, from mineral whites to oxidative wines, including natural sparkling wines, champagnes, rosé wines, and macerated white wines known as orange wines. A plethora of them are even chilled and ready to be taken away and uncorked! From "fruit-forward gems" to complex nectars, including pure, straightforward yet vibrant terroir juices, sourced from human-sized organic estates, free from any productivist approach, working with respect for the terroir and seeking to produce wines as naturally as possible, without artifice, without embellishment, and mostly without additives.
Our partnership with Culinaries also provides access to wine allocations from winemakers not found everywhere in Lyon, and that's no small feat! There are exclusive cuvées made only for YARD and Culinaries, but also rare cuvées (even impossible to find in Lyon!) and aged vintages that had to be waited for and that are not usually found on a wine merchant's shelves! For example, we are proud to offer for sale the live, sulfite-free wines from Domaine de l'Ange Vin, led by the pope of natural wine in Anjou, Jean-Pierre Robinot, and those of his near neighbor Renaud Guettier from Domaine de la Grapperie, the explosive gems from Etna winemaker Frank Cornelissen, the Georgian-style organic Saint-Josephs from Paul Esteve of Domaine des Miquettes, the Corbières from Domaine Fond Cyprès, the typical Alsatian biodynamic crus from the young Domaine Einhart, the natural Savoie wines from the great Jean-Yves Péron, the renowned Burgundies from Frédéric Cossard and his former Domaine de Chassorney... and many more!
We strive to make our wine cellar accessible to everyone: around thirty gems are therefore available at prices between €12 and €18. We are committed to making natural wine drinking accessible to everyone in Lyon!
Need advice on choosing THE natural wine bottle you'll be enjoying tonight? Martin and his team are at your service and will be delighted to help you discover the best to fill your glasses!
At YARD Lyon on Place Bellecour, you don't just drink, you also come to fill your stomach, of course! You can find local products there, beautiful, good, and healthy, also sourced according to a drastic environmental and quality charter.
For the cut cheese section, we offer cheeses that are mostly raw milk and from artisanal and human-sized productions, and a changing selection according to the seasons and desires: Comté, Bleu du Vercors, Bleu de Gex, Fourme de Montbrison, Saint Marcellin crémier à la lyonnaise, Ossau Iraty "Esquirrou", small ash-coated goat logs... Our Lyon cellar contains the perfect natural wines to sublimate all this French heritage!
As for cured meats, we have selected two main suppliers! First, Maison Fulchiron (formerly Patrimoniam), a young Lyon-based company, whose authentic Lyon sausage (half beef, half pork) and dry "ficelles" are from organic farming and made without nitrifying salts. Then, Maison Montalet: discover their superb IGP Lacaune dry-cured ham aged 12 months in the open air, which we slice on demand! We also offer, as desired, at least one other of their specialties without added nitrites: coppa (pork collar), lonzo (pork loin), or ventrèche (pancetta); as well as their sausages, plain or truffle-seasoned, also without nitrites.
Hot sauces, pasta, spices, sauces, vinegars, oils, cooking aids, terrines, canned goods from land and sea, condiments, dried vegetables and mushrooms, jams, syrups, savory or sweet biscuits, tasting chocolate, spreads, jars of ready meals… As you can see, our shelves have everything you need to indulge, whether for cooking with the best products or for a quick bite, for your impromptu aperitifs, for the simplest moments that you want to accompany with fine products, right up to grand feasts and festive tables, for your personalized gourmet basket compositions... All rigorously selected from producers who work with an overall organic approach, often certified Organic Farming and/or Nature & Progrès, respectful of the environment and people.
Here too, we specialize in rarities! We are happy to offer you products that are almost (or even totally) impossible to find in Lyon. For example, you will find the famous Dohatsu Broths, Patrice Lubet's Mitchut Landes pastis, Shira spices, La Guinelle vinegars, Papa Dei Boschi's IGP Piedmont hazelnuts, Giuseppe Giusti's award-winning balsamic vinegars, or Acquerello Carnaroli rice.
Of course, pride of place is given to artisan producers from Lyon and its region! Both in the natural wine cellar, in the freshness of our display case, and on our shelves.
As a bonus, we are proud to be one of Poiscaille and Bene Bono's relay points in Lyon, both virtuous companies! Allowing local residents to come and collect their fruit and vegetable baskets, and their fishmonger's crates in our cellar, is a committed approach that we support!
In our opinion, any wine merchant worthy of the name should offer a selection of diverse artisanal beverages. You will find a fine selection of about fifteen craft beers, mainly local, from more "classic" styles to more "geeky" craft beers (ephemeral, seasonal, collaborations, barrel-aged... and alcohol-free ones!) - as well as organic pure juice ciders; specialized spirits (mainly organic liqueurs and brandies, including the famous ones from Laurent Cazottes, Cognac, Armagnac, Calvados, French and Italian gins, French vodkas, tequila, mezcal, Guadeloupe rum...); and a wide selection of non-alcoholic beverages: creative and gourmet alternatives, artisanal sodas, local fruit juices... Here, no non-alcoholic wines obtained by industrial dealcoholization processes!
For all your events in Lyon, whether private or professional, you can privatize our natural wine cellar: more than just a wine merchant, YARD Lyon is a place to live. This can be for a corporate breakfast in a friendly atmosphere, for a wine and cheese aperitif before lunch, an afterwork with a charcuterie buffet and unlimited wine (or in limited quantities, of course), for a natural wine initiation workshop, an in-depth tasting focusing on a specific branch of natural wine, a discovery of the art of food and wine pairing... Share your desires with us, you are in good hands: Martin will welcome you like royalty, provide you with his valuable advice and share his wine expertise with your guests!
Some examples of natural wine tasting themes available from our cellar in Lyon: organic white, red or orange wines (skin-contact wines), Beaujolais, Burgundy, Alsace or Italian wines, Northern Rhône vs Southern Rhône, Mediterranean wines, French wines, foreign wines, sparkling wines (natural sparkling and/or Champagne), magnum evening, big names in natural wines, zero added sulfites, a focus on a type of winemaking, 100% organic or certified biodynamic...
Craft beer, cider, spirits, or even non-alcoholic beverages can also be included!
