Among the most renowned terroirs of Marsannay, Clos du Roy gives birth to one of Sylvain Pataille's most ambitious cuvées. Grown on limestone and sandstone soils, the Pinot Noir here reveals a deep and refined expression: cherry, raspberry, peony, and black fruits are accompanied by delicate spices. The palate combines intensity and finesse, with perfectly integrated tannins, a silky texture, and a remarkable mineral framework.
The grapes are hand-harvested and then fermented with their indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged on fine lees for 15 to 18 months in barrels, about 35% of which are new wood. More structured than the Marsannay village, Clos du Roy has real aging potential and will gain even more complexity with time. Serve with a fine cut of beef, pigeon, guinea fowl, duck, or game.
