👨‍🌾 WINEMAKER OF THE MONTH 👨‍🌾 Danis dans la Vigne, Cahors natural version

Fancy a Cahors that rocks? Forget heavy, hard-to-digest red wines. Far from clichés, this month we're taking you on a journey to the heart of the Southwest, to discover a winemaker who's breaking the mold: Danis Bessières, aka Danis dans la Vigne.

L'Antenet: a story of family (a little) and pioneers (a lot)

In 1983, Pierre Bessières, the grandfather, thought, "Hey, what if I went organic?" Without further ado, he became the first organic winemaker in Cahors. A true pioneer! His son
Philippe took over, with the idea of making "easy-drinking" wines (because we like to drink well without getting a stomach ache).
Today, Danis, the grandson, is at the helm. After traveling
in London (he even worked in the restaurant business), he returned home to make
natural wine, initially by buying grapes from his parents (the Domaine de
l’Antenet) and then with the estate itself starting in 2022.

An exceptional terroir in the heart of the Cahors appellation

L'Antenet is 10 hectares of vines, with Malbec (the star grape variety of Cahors),
but also other lesser-known grape varieties such as Jurançon Noir and Ségalin. The soil is a mixture of sand, clay, and pebbles (well, the terroir, really) and the vines are between 30 and 40 years old (well, some are a little younger, so don't overdo it).

Organic growing methods (obviously) and vibrant wines (obviously)

At L'Antenet, we produce organic wines, real Nature & Progrès certified wines, please! But we also do biodynamics, because it's even more organic than organic. In the winery, Danis does what his father and grandfather did: no yeast, no enzymes, and very little sulfites if necessary. The wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts, the juices are unfined and unfiltered, the basis of a natural wine! Danis' wines are the stars of this story! He offers colorful, lively, dense, energetic, fresh, and digestible wines. Modern vintages with distinctive labels. We'll leave you with these few suggestions, it's up to you...
