Producer: Longueteau Rums

Rhums Longueteau

In 1895, significant gambling debts forced the Marquis of Sainte-Marie to sell his family estate, the Marquisate of Sainte-Marie. This magnificent property stretches across Basse-Terre, at the foot of the Soufrière massif and a stone's throw from the site where Christopher Columbus landed in 1492.

The new owner, Henri Longueteau, found a small sugar refinery there, which he transformed into an agricultural rum distillery. Unlike the molasses rum typically produced industrially, agricultural rum is the flagship of the French Caribbean islands, made from pure sugarcane juice. The rums produced by the Longueteau distillery would soon be among the most prestigious in the French Antilles. Today, it is the oldest distillery in Guadeloupe still in operation.

Passed down from father to son since its creation, the estate is currently in the hands of François Longueteau, a distiller since 1979. He is responsible for the development of the rum range, the creation of punches, and the special vintages of aged rums.

Over time, the equipment has evolved, but the production remains artisanal and traditional. Longueteau's unique approach to sugarcane terroirs is the first distillery on the island to have adopted this approach. It is also the only one with complete autonomy in sugarcane production, as all the cane is grown on the estate, ensuring its freshness before the juice is extracted. Two varieties are used: blue cane and red cane.

The care taken in crafting these rums has earned them numerous awards in national and international competitions. Enjoyed neat or in a punch, they are refined, deep, and fragrant, with an aromatic note that lingers forever.
